Scriptures and Cell Phones

I have decided that I need to keep a blog, not just my journal, but a blog to that the entire world can see. I think this decision was in part made up of a few things starting to take place in my life. I am a Mormon and belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The first reason that I have decided that I need to blog is that I have decided that I need to serve a full time mission as soon as I possibly can. I recently received my call and I was assigned to labor in the South Africa, Cape Town Mission. The second being that while perusing mormon.org I felt that I needed to make my profile there, but also needed to have an additional place where I can just write about my feelings about the church and how it has blessed my life in so many ways.

Where to start... There is so much that the church has done for me, and there is so much that my Savior has done for me and I think that this may be a little of a wake up call for me to do something about that. One of the main reasons that I decided to serve a mission is not that I was pressured into going by my parents or anybody around me, but rather that I had some knowledge, even with how little it is, and I wanted to share that with the world because it has brought me such joy, and I want to be able to share that joy with everybody that I can. There is no better look on somebody's face than that of pure joy. Not the childish joy that happens at Christmas, but the joy that you get from learning something that will impact your life, for good, for forever.

Anyways, on a side note, I saw something that Alex Boy√© wrote, and it impacted me a lot. I realize that I am a human, and that I make mistakes. But am I really doing all that I can to help spread the gospel? There are some days that I, being me, don't take advantage to read the words of prophets and to gain understanding and wisdom from those who came before me. Not only am I guided by the spirit when I read my scriptures, but my whole day goes by a lot better than it does if I don't read my scriptures.

Anyways, here is what Alex wrote/quoted:

" I wonder what would happen if we treated our scriptures like we treat our cell phones?

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if we spent an hour or more using it every day?
What if we used it to receive messages?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to other kids as gifts?
What if we used it as we traveled?
What if we used it in case of an emergency?
This is something to make you go...."Hmmm..Dude.. where are my scriptures?"

Unlike our cell phones:
One Plan does fit all.
Unlimited usage.
No roaming charges.
You always have reception.
You can use it in the mountains and in a tunnel.
It's free with no hidden costs,
AND
You don't ever have to worry your scriptures being disconnected because CHRIST has already paid the bill!"

This is so true!! Our savior is so amazing that he has already paid the price for us, all we have to do is do as much as we possibly can, and then let him pick us up, and carry us the rest of the way. There is no other thing that can possibly bring me more joy than sharing this one simple and basic principle with other.

Ok, maybe I lied, maybe families, eternal families, could bring me more joy. But I guess that it is a pretty close race, eternal families, knowing that Christ lives, and knowing that he trusts men with his power, the priesthood, and knowing that I can be forgiven of my sins. These four things are what really makes me happy. Just knowing and living with the knowledge of these things just makes everything else in life drop into place exactly where things need to go. I love this gospel, I love my family, and above all else, I love my Savior, Jesus Christ.
