Week 17 - Burnt Toast

2:09 PM Posted by Janette , No comments
Well, here goes for this week. This week has been awesome and fun. I have really enjoyed the opportunity that I have had to be out here. I guess that it doesn’t help that my companion and I have had an awesome time. We have been so busy teaching and visiting people that our days have been pretty busy. In other news, our toaster is broken, so it doesn’t automatically pop up when it is done. We have burnt a lot of toast this week because of that. I guess that we would learn about that and adjust, but we haven’t.

This past pday, we went and had a lazy day. We went to sportsman warehouse and got a frisbee. I really enjoy getting the opportunity to run around and get some exercise. And having something to play with only makes it that much more fun. All I have to say is that I really enjoy my companion. We aren’t doing as much as we were, but we are doing a bunch and the work is moving along smoothly although slowly. This week we have been doing a lot of service in the mornings because all of our lessons are in the evening. We have been doing a lot of garden work and cleaning up weeds. I have actually found a lot of peace and solace in cleaning up some of the gardens. Also this week. I went on exchanges with Elder Ingram, even though it wasn’t a normal exchange. In a normal exchange, the companionship will trade companions, but since he was in a tripanionship, he was just able to come and join us for our day. That was fun and way insightful. He is going home soon, so it was cool to get the chance to hear some of his insight about mission.

Yes, Cape Town and port Elizabeth are quite far. It was about a 2hr flight to get here. I also recently found out that sactm is one of the only missions that has been authorized it do transfers by plane.

I love being on mission. It is the best thing that I think that I have ever done in my life. I have learnt so much and have grown in so manny different ways. It has made me a better person already, and it will continue to make me a better person still.

Week 16 - Tracting!

2:20 PM Posted by Janette , No comments
Well, I almost have to go, and I had a nice long email to send to everyone, but the computer decided to delete it, so I'm starting over. I'm just going to summarize it and there will be a longer letter next week.

I'm glad that the family is doing well, and I'm kinda bummed that I'm missing all of the fun of the summer activities. Instead of camping and playing with fireworks, I'm tracting! Tracting is so much fun when you have a companion that enjoys it and when you have fun. The only thing that I wish that I could do is go to the temple. I miss the temple so much and I wish that I could go every day, like I used to.

This area, Port Elizabeth, is awesome, I enjoy it much more than I enjoy Cape Town. It is a lot more relaxed and has a much slower tempo. I like that a ton. Our area is getting busier and busier every week that we go on.

Nate, enjoy the MTC. But know that I thought it was a prison. I hated my time in the mtc (there were only 21 of us in the entire mtc.) Just wait till you get to the field and then the food will be way different. Mission is all about attitude and obedience. Be exactly obedient and all the promises that are in the white handbook and PMG will be yours.

Love you all, and I'll have more next week

Week 15 - Transferred to Port Elizabeth

1:26 PM Posted by Janette No comments
Well, here I am, no longer in Cape Town. I got moved out to the wonderful world of Port Elizabeth. I am serving in the Lorraine area, and it is wonderful. A couple of missionaries before us destroyed the area, but we are in the process of cleaning it up. As I was cleaning out some of the records, it turns out that Aunt Alyson served here in the same area and she taught several of the people that had records. So that is really cool.

The new area is awesome, lots of potential, so we will see where that goes, I hope all will go well here. My new companion is Elder M., he is from Johannesburg, so I'm now two for two with South African Companions. I have had fun with him so far. We are both relatively young on mission, Our combined ages on mission is only nine months. He is district leader, and wants to work just as much as I do, so that is something that I am really looking forward to.

Here are a ton of pictures from the last area, some members and investigators, and the airplanes from the chapel (the airplane shots are duplicates from last week's pictures). The only one that is from this area is the one of the fondue which Elder M. and I had on our second or third day together. I'll have to get a good picture with him and then I'll send it on over to you guys.

Week 14 - New Mission President

4:48 PM Posted by Janette , No comments
Well Hello Everybody!

This week was an awesome week! In other words let the insanity continue! We had a ton of lessons this week, several new investigators, and lots of members that were visited. We have several investigators that are so ready and accepting of the gospel, it is awesome! I wish all that we met were that ready.

In other news, the mission just got a new mission president, President M. He came here on the first of July and is taking over from President W. Pres. M., I found out, is a retired Chaplin LTC in the Air Force, so that should be interesting.

Also this past week, the air base has been quite busy. Several C130's have been taking off and landing at the strip, so it is reminding me of home. BTW, these are pictures from the church of a C47 that has been taking off all day long (Table Mountain in the background).

I also had the opportunity to go on some exchanges this week, which were kinda cool, but not like my companion. This week is also transfer week! So we will find out tonight what and where we are going if anywhere.

Thank you all for the emails, even if I don't reply due to limited time. Love you all, and I'll report back next week
